Bond was born in Seattle but raised in the foothills of Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains, where he cultivated a love for the outdoors and ultra-endurance athletics from a young age. He grew up racing mountain bikes and trail running. Never fully satisfied, Bond has always been determined to make his next goal bigger than the previous one, which pushed him deeper into the world of ultra cycling, especially when COVID cancelled school and left him with unlimited freedom during his high school years. But it wasn’t until college that he truly broke out into the ultra scene.

In 2022, Bond moved to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where he studies climate science, environmental studies, and government; he graduated in June of 2026. In 2024, Bond completed the 13,500-mile Pan-American highway in a record-setting 75 days. Since then, he has accumulated two more world records. In 2026, he is stepping into the world of ultra cycling racing and will pursue cycling full-time post-grad. Bond’s love for sport is impossible to disentangle from his love for the natural world, which has led him to combine many of his athleticendeavors with environmental activism and fundraising. Bond has worked closely with the Honnold Foundation to raise over $30,000 to promote “solar power for a more equitable world.”

Q&A with Bond

You can always find me with salted cinnamon Untappeds in my pockets and the original Mapleaid in my bottles. I love the versatility of Mapleaid; it pairs well with any soda, juice, coffee, etc., so I always keep some on me during long rides for that extra carb and electrolyte boost. After rides, my go-to is the vegan chocolate recovery mix, but the strawberry is also a favorite. I’m also a huge fan of the lemon waffle, and will commonly throw some peanut butter on one for a little dessert 🙂

Cycling is more than a sport to me; my bike is a vehicle for exploration, and riding is an injection of freedom. As a kid, my bike was my way to see the world and leave all of my worries behind. Not much has changed as I’ve grown. There is a purity and beauty that comes from seeing the world at 20 mph on a bike. I feel like I am the truest version of myself when I am biking. Just me, two wheels, and the entire world to explore. I’m also immensely curious, and from that curiosity comes a desire to see how far I can push myself and find the answer to the question “what if…?

I’m notorious for not riding with a flat repair kit, so often, only one puncture. But hitchhiking is one of my favorite activities in the entire world, so sometimes I relish the opportunity a flat heralds. There’s no better way to meet fascinating people than by sticking your thumb out on a back road.

My life is incredibly dynamic. Every time I think I have a plan for the future, a new opportunity presents itself, and my future looks radically different. The uncertainty is sometimes stressful, but I love unpredictability and the excitement of not exactly knowing what comes next. It leaves a lot of room for dreaming, and I’m big into dreaming. So just that unpredictability of my future is super exciting, but if I had to boil it down, I’d say I’m most excited to see all the far-reaching corners of the world my bike will take me to over the next 10 years.
